Over the years, CRLL has tried various arrangements to allow families the flexibility of hiring a student instead of working their required volunteer hours themselves. Trying to find the right balance of league and parent responsibility to ensure the volunteer needs (i.e. snack shack) are met is tricky. As a league, and in-line with Little League International’s recommendation, we do not want to hire employees to staff the Snack Shack. The League considers junior workers volunteers but parents and juniors may make an arrangement whereby the parent compensates the youth who take their place.
Families can choose to contact a junior worker to work in lieu of their required volunteer shifts themselves. This is a much less expensive way to fulfill the requirement rather than having your $200 check cashed. It also gives the youth in our community an opportunity to be a part of our program and learn valuable skills.
PROCESS
1. Sign-up for a shift marked “Adult or Student” with your name and your player’s name.
2. Contact our volunteer coordinator Sarah Borja via email [email protected] and request a Junior Worker for that specific shift.
3. Sarah will then provide parent with the junior worker name and phone # for the shift.
4. Parent is responsible for paying the student their rate of $11/hour for the shift. Please pay in cash.
