ALL FIELDS: Drag and rake field, especially high traffic areas after practice. Never use Quick Dry on grass, only dirt!
Keep the Fields Looking Great!
Maintaining our fields is very important to ensure a safe playing surface and enjoyable playing atmosphere for our players.
Check out the video link on this page for a quick primer on some does and don'ts when you help get the fields ready.
Below is also a partial list of guidelines and reminders when preparing fields for games, or cleaning them up after a game/practice.
- DO NOT run the infield drag over the grass. This moves dirt onto the grass, and creates a lip. Leave at least 1foot of dirt between the drag and all grass areas. DO NOT drag the baselines.
- DO hand rake the dirt away from bordering grass (instead of using the drag). This will keep dirt from piling up and forming a lip.
- DO NOT have kids warm up infront of the dugouts. This creates more wear on the grass that is already getting heavy use. Have your players warm up in the outfield.
- DO NOT hit baseballs into the fencing (i.e., dug out, cage), as over time this leads to the fencing getting bowed, and requires replacement.
- DO wear tennis shoes (no spikes) in the batting cage. This will help preserve the turf floor of the cage and avoid early replacement.
